According to the ASPCA, 37-47% of American households are home to a dog, and 30-37% of households have cats (â€Å"Pet Statistics†). Pets are usually very important members of the family, offering unconditional love, play, and cuddles. Now imagine someone injecting or smearing chemicals and irritants on or under their skin. Or even worse, squeezing irritants into their eyes, like those found in shampoos or soaps, just to make life easier for consumers. These are only mild examples of the animal testing that goes on every single day around the world, and right here in the United States of America. Animals are kept in lonely, cold, dirty kennels, and some never see the light of day. When the pup was held to her mouth, she tenderly licked it, but anyth ing else held to her mouth was snapped at furiously. In 1937, the mass poisoning of many consumers by the â€Å"Elixir Sulfanilamide†sparked public outcry. The drug was developed to treat streptococcal infections, and included diethylene glycol. Unbeknownst to the chemist, this solvent was toxic to humans (Scutti). Once the drug was released, it caused the poisoning and subsequent death of more than one hundred people. This mass poisoning led to the 1938 passing of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, which required products to be tested on animals before they could be marketed to consumers (Scutti). Fast forward to the twenty-first century, when the European Commission banned animal testing in all cosmetics and the ingredients contained in those cosmetics. In Holy Sonnet XIV, John Donne directly addresses God using a desperate and forceful tone. The formal structure of Donne s holy sonnet follows the basic Petrarchan sonnet form. The sonnet has fourteen lines divided into an octave and a sestet. The rhyme scheme of the octave is abba abba. The sestet has the rhyme scheme cdcdee. Donne expresses his spiritual turmoil and longing by using this structure to present different metaphors that illustrate his condition, and he uses Petrarchan conventions to further highlight his spiritual desires. The octave introduces and illustrates the spiritual difficulty that Donne finds himself in trapped in, and wants God to take him out of. The first line starts with Donne s desperate and urgent command to God to batter or violently beat his heart (1). Donne uses the metaphor of his heart as a metal object, and God as a metal smith to support this command. Donne s heart is a broken object that the metal smith has gently stroked, breathed on to shin e, and polished, in order to fix the broken parts. However, Donne claims that this is not enough. The metal smith needs to break, blow, burn in order to make the object new (4). The metal smith must apply more force to shatter the object, and then place it into the fire to melt, so the metal can be purified and new. Answer: The biggest group of professionals in the mental health care system are the nurses. In order to give best quality care to the migrants or refuges, the nurse needs to be culturally competent (Giger 2016). According to the Code of Ethics (Code of Ethics for Nurses in Australia 2017), nurses need to be culturally competent and culturally responsive care to every person requiring or receiving nursing care. Australia is experiencing increase in the population diversity with 22 million population count (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2013) and out of them 60% are from overseas migration. The statistical analysis revealed that one out of four Australians are born overseas and 20% of the total population speak language other than English. However, whether it is immigrants or indigenous population, all of them have equal right to enjoy optimised mental health care. Indigenous population in Australian continent lacks adequate access to mental health services. In order to provide a comprehensive mental health service irrespective of the population, the following measures must be undertaken: While providing mental care to the indigenous people, a family member of the affected person must be present throughout the counselling Clinicians are requested not to have a judgemental approach while counselling these people The nursing professionals must increase the horizon of their thought process and have their own worldview Nurses are recommended to listen attentively, forbidden from applying stereotype approach, respect rights to privacy of the patient and make proper use of knowledge from interactions with the Aboriginal community on use of culturally appropriate terms.
